Artist Biography

John Geci, a native of rural Connecticut, graduated from Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY, in 1994 with a BA in Philosophy. While majoring in Philosophy, he developed an interest and minor concentration in ceramics and glass. His fascination with creating forms influenced him to pursue a career in hand-blown glass.

After college, John enrolled in a two-month study at the Penland School in North Carolina, where he studied under some of the great names in glass blowing. Since then he has worked in the Penland area, assisting teachers, helping run the Penland studio, working with local glass artists, and making his own work. John has participated in developing the first environmentally friendly glass shop, EnergyXchange, which uses methane gas from decomposing trash to fuel furnaces and kilns for glass blowers, metal workers and potters.
